The upcoming 2022 Ford Mustangs with 5-liter V-8 Coyote engine will reach the market with a little less potency as the figures will slightly drop for horsepower and torque in the powertrain. Specifically, the powertrain offered by Ford V-8 Mustangs will suffer a net loss of 10 horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque compared to the 2021 V-8 models. This news has recently been confirmed by Ford Authority, which is surely a bad one for Mustang enthusiasts. But only a few V-8 Mustang ponies are going to face this potency reduction in the 2022 models.
The root cause described for decrease in the power and torque is the stricter emission regulations. As the Ford spokesperson Claire Carroll confirmed it while giving a statement to R&T.
Not only the V-8 Coyote Mustang GT will face this reduction in power and torque but also the 2022 Mach 1 model will face the same figure-fall. Now the 2022 model Mustang GT with the 5-liter Coyote engine will be down from 460 hp and 420 lb-ft. of torque to 450 horsepower and 410-pound feet of torque while the V-8 Mach-1 2022 model will face the decrease to 470 hp and 410-pound feet of torque under the hood. However, in my opinion these figures are still very compatible and acceptable for the pony V-8 Mustang lovers as the downfall in figures will not have a serious impact on the efficiency and compatibility of powertrain.
Ford Authorities have not shared any update regarding any sort of changes in the new models aside from the two new packages.
· California special package which shall be available with the Mustang GT models
· Ice white edition and Stealth edition package that will be available for those shipping the eco-boost turbo 2.3 liter inline-four that makes 330 hp with the optional performance package.
Mustang is not facing this problem in Europe yet as the Blue Oval has not been advertising this reduction in its leading sports car, if there is any, where the Mustang only makes 444 hp and 390 lb-ft. of torque. Although the figures are still in comparison with the Chevrolet and Dodge.
Pricing details are still not provided by Ford authorities but it is estimated that the bookings shall be open for the public at the end of this year and the pony cars shall arrive to the market in the start of the upcoming year.
